Navratri is one of the most auspicious festivals for Hindus and it is celebrated across the entire nation with great pomp. This nine-day festival is observed twice a year, in spring and autumn. On Sharad Navratri, devotees worship the nine incarnations of Goddess Durga, known as Navdurga.

Well, this year on the fifth day of Navratri, devotees worship Maa Skandamata.

Maa Skandamata is the fifth form of Goddess Durga and she rides on a lion and she has four hands. In one of her hands, she holds the infant form of her son Lord Skanda and her other hand is in Abhaymudra, which dispels all fears. In the other two hands, she holds lotus flowers. Her name is derived from her son Lord Skanda, the warrior god who is known as Kartiykeya and Murugan.

This fifth form of Navdurga is worshipped during Navratri and she is known to bless her devotees with power, prosperity and salvation. This year Goddess Skandamata will be worshipped on September 30.

The colour for September 30 is green and it symbolises nature, growth and energy.

Navratri 2022 Day 5: Date and Shubh Muhurat

Maa Skandamata is celebrated on the fifth day (September 30). As per the Drik Panchang, Brahma Muhurat will begin from 4:37 AM to 5:25 AM whereas the Amrit Kalam will appear from 6:18 PM to 7:51 PM. Vijaya Muhurt on the other hand will be occurring between 2:10 PM and 2:58 PM.

It is believed that for those who worship Maa Skandamata with complete devotion, she will bless them with happiness, prosperity and power.

Navratri 2022 Day 5: Puja Vidhi

  1. Devotees take an early morning bath and wear yellow clothes on the 5th day of Navratri.
  2. Yellow-colored clothes are donned as it stands for optimism, good health, positivity and happiness.
  3. Then worshippers install the idol of the Goddess on a chowki and offer her yellow flowers, Gangajal, kumkum and ghee.
